Menopause can bring a lot of discomforts including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, weight gain, and mood changes. To help relieve these symptoms, you can press the acupressure points.

There are three important meridians along the medial side of the legs. They are kidney, liver, and spleen meridians. These three meridians start from the feet and run through the lower abdominal areas. The kidney meridians store our congenital and acquired essence. It mainly rules the bones development, hearing, and reproductive system. Part of the spleen meridian functions is assisting in digestive functions and generating the blood. The liver meridians are able to regulate blood and move the energy. These three meridians together are used commonly to regulate the menstrual functions in Chinese medicine practice.

In order to work on these meridians to relieve the menopause discomforts, warm up the lower legs by using a heat pad or warm water first. Then, apply some oil, lotion, or cream. Starting from the line behind the ankle (red line), use your fingers or knuckles and press up along the line. You may press nine times when finding the tender points, otherwise, just press three times. The next line is next to the shin bone (blue line). Repeat the same procedure with the fingers and/or knuckles. Then press along the shin bone (black line) with the same procedure. Repeat each line three times. Work on the meridians daily. You may see the results in a few days or a few weeks. If you still need help, please consult with the acupuncturist, Bruce Sun.
